The Blues - Homework Research Project

Overview

You will research Blues music and write a paragraph on each of these questions:

1. What are the origins of the Blues? (The history – Slave Trade, etc.)
2. How did the Blues develop?
3. What are the musical features of the Blues? (including Improvisation, lyrics, etc.)
4. What was the instrumentation of Blues music and why? (How have the instruments changed?)
5. Name famous Blues composers and performers, including the names of their songs.
6. Where would Blues music have been performed and heard? (Where would you hear it & who would listen to it?)
7. Which Blues influences are there in the ‘popular’ music of today? (What musical styles have developed from the Blues & how)

Researching

• DO NOT PLAGIARISE… unless you want to get zero marks and re-do the project :(
  
• Do not copy & paste directly from a website without saying the website you got it from
  
• Any text that you copy & paste should be put in quotation marks, and underneath you should state the web address that the text came from
  
  
• How to Research:

4. Present the info in your own words!

Presentation

• You should also use pictures; remember to state where you got these pictures from.
• Your work should be well-presented in a folder or sleeve or on a CD.
• NO E-MAILING!
• Better presentation = Better marks :)
  
• Contents & Bibliography (list of books, websites, CDs, etc. you have used in your project).
  
• Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar

Assessment Criteria

4) Your project has comprehensive information on all sections and is excellently-presented, showing a wide range of research methods

3) Your project has detailed information on all sections and is well-presented, showing a few research methods

2) Your project has information on some sections, and only one research method has been used

1) Your project has basic information on some sections
